  TEAMS Groups

We are courageous….We are strong!

Training activities will seek to provide education and information to members about personal recovery, self-advocacy and how to become a more effective organization. Training and education objectives include preparing members to better inform other consumers, the public, mental health professionals, and elected officials about mental health recovery, consumer rights, and service needs. In addition to training and education requested or sponsored by individual groups, NC MHCO offers media training and a yearly Leadership Academy. With the additional support of Area Programs and Clubhouses, NC MHCO sponsors an annual statewide conference.

Encouragement is the regaining of the spirit that is ones self. Encouragement offers hope for recovery. When we step out of our comfort zones and take responsibility for ourselves we are encouraged to grow, change, and recover.

Advocacy is making a difference in our own life and in the life of another. It is being committed to making changes for a better health care system that promotes recovery. True advocacy seeks to learn and pass knowledge along. Information is the key and sharing knowledge makes it all work. Advocacy is passing the torch so that the outcome will be different. Advocacy champions the rights of individuals to live in recovery.

Membership is open to any primary care consumer who wishes to join. The object of a TEAMS group is to help make members feel accepted, to offer support, opportunities for self-advocacy, reinforce appropriate behavior, educate, and provide feedback, information, and ideas. The result will be an encouragement. Membership is enhanced through your local TEAMS Groups, WRAP Groups, and by joining the statewide North Carolina Mental Health Consumers’ Organization. Belonging to the statewide organization brings with it more privileges.

Support creates positive atmosphere for mutual recovery. Support lends courage and comfort through support groups and a network of others who provide emotional, moral, and practical assistance when a consumer needs it most. Support is friendship and fellowship with one another. Support is offered through NC MHCO TEAMS Groups, as well as, Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Groups. WRAP is a personal recovery plan that can be enriched by group support.

May these support groups be healing places, hopeful places!
